Want to be listened to in Business or Life? Try listening

Villainous thought: “I’m out here struggling with my problem all alone. No one understands what I’m going through.”

Dealing with stress

Life and Business Cause Stress

Though it can feel like you’re the only one in the world dealing with daily stresses and struggles, the truth is, everyone is dealing with something. This isn’t at all to diminish the amount of stress you’re under. It’s to let you know, you’re not alone in your efforts, struggles, stresses, etc. The sooner you realize you have people who can sympathize with you, the better off you will feel.

Losing Focus

When we have a problem in our lives we tend to focus on that problem, and its effects on us. With this focus, the problem gets so large it obscures our focus, making us believe it is the most important thing in the world. So, when other people talk to us without sharing our view of our problem, we think it means they don’t understand or care.

In Dale Carnegie’s ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ he writes about Howard Z. Herzig, a leader of his time in Employee Communications. When asked what reward he got from talking to people about themselves, he said he received a different reward every time and it had enlarged his life. Listen to people and they may surprise you by offering you something you can use to enlarge your life and get past your problems.
