Life, uh, gets in the way
Make Time for Life & Your Business
Whether you're talking human-eating velociraptors or visitors from Europe, disruptions can really throw you for a loop.
Last time I wrote a little bit about how important it is to have some leeway in your life, and in coaching. As it turns out, for Paul, the visitors from Europe had a Tyrannosaurus Rex-sized effect on his life.
So, starting the call, we had to pivot from moving on, to see how we could still add value despite this bump. First, we started by unpacking any feelings of guilt, or failure to make sure the experience remained a positive one.
Business Success & Guilt
Often times, because the people I work with are so dedicated, my clients will feel guilty if they don't follow through on their intentions – even when it couldn't have gone any other way. It's important to me that our calls don't bring feelings of dread or guilt, as that makes people less likely to open up and makes it harder for me to help.
So we dealt with any lingering guilt, then moved on to a goal that was more suited to Paul's current situation.
Motivated Success
Recently, I've found a lot of value in gamifying jobs to increase motivation. For Paul, gamifying his work and the habits he wants to acquire could increase his push to get projects done. So, we talked a little bit about the benefits of gamification and some strategies to put it in place.
After that, we talked a little bit about setting intentions for his business. Many of my clients, especially those in small business, have their hands so full in the present, they have a hard time finding room to look to the future. One of the ways I've found that has proved very successful is to write down a list of prospects for the business in one column, then in a second write down how much business (in dollars) you can realistically expect from them.
By planning for success this way, it makes it much easier to see the possibilities to get there.
I hope these few tips will be successful to all of you as they are to Paul. If you want any more information on these strategies, contact me
